This year, Wairakei Estate collaborated with New Zealand Forest Managers to implement wilding pine control which saw over 90 hectares treated across the Estate – 61 hectares in the Paetataramoa Catchment and 30 hectares in the Pueto Catchment.

This initiative is another boost for biodiversity across the Estate, and coupled with the ongoing pest animal control, will hopefully see these areas continue to regenerate to ultimately provide the ideal habitat for more native species. We already have our sights set on further treatment areas along the Waikato River in 2024.
